Fate Has Weird Ways Of Presenting Itself

Fate Has Weird Ways Of Presenting Itself

If it was any other day, I would go about my work at the coffee shop and meet with my friends. But today was different. I didn’t realise this fact when I woke up in the morning abruptly because of an unusual dream and realised I was running late for work then I visit Melbourne Gunsmith near my room. Today was one of those days that had me doing what I never thought I’d do.
My day started like any other, with a long drive to the coffee shop. I arrived at the shop with a racing heart and began serving customers, making some coffees, doing some paperwork. But then things began to change, like a switch from ‘on’ to ‘off’.
It started with the little man I was serving. He greeted me awkwardly and seemed like wanting to have  a word. He asked me about what other shops he could visit in the vicinity, trying to break the ice. I mentioned this great Melbourne Gunsmith shop round the corner called “Melbourne Master Gunsmith” which had a unique collection of hunting guns and offered up-to-the-mark cleaning and barreling services. They are one of the most acclaimed gunsmiths in Melbourne and have been loved among hobbyists and professionals alike. Then I mentioned a clothing shop from a local brand which had a great collection of formal suits and shirts. As soon as he had my full attention, he started moving onto other things. He seemed like a nice enough man, although I had seen him for the first time. He spoke to me in a quiet, soothing voice, and he seemed to know exactly what to say. Little did I know, he was foreseeing my life like some psychic. How he even knew what to say, was very out of the ordinary. He made small talk, idle conversation, and bargaining. Even helping me out when I was short on cash. He just seemed as if he was not too interested in the ‘big picture’ and he was only interested in helping me out. But I couldn’t help but wonder, how could this man know what I needed before I told him? All it took was one look into my eyes, and that was it. He could foresee my future.
We continued to talk, it became more and more unusual with every next syllable. It felt so strange to meet a man for the first time who knew everything about me. He even knew what I was going to do for the rest of my life. It took me a lot of effort to wrap my head around these new thoughts but after a while, I had to accept that I had no other choice. I had to accept who I was, that I was meant to join my countrymen on the mystery mission. The man had seen through me, and believed that I was the right man for the purpose. He had told me some nice things, but some things I didn’t want to hear. I wasn’t ready for those yet.
On accepting who I was, I had to act immediately. Soon, I found myself leaving the coffee shop, and heading towards the City. I didn’t know why I had to go to the City, but I had a very clear vision of what I had to do. I went on for a long time, seeing things I’d never seen before. I saw things about men, I saw things about nature, I saw things about poverty and with every mile I crossed, my future sunk deeper into my being.
The further I went into the City, the biggest of the buildings became. The greener the trees became. The more colourful the flowers became. The way people talked to me changed. I could see a smile with hurt hidden behind it’s meaning. After walking for a while, I came into what I thought was the end. A man lay on the floor, with blood stains across his face. This could only mean one thing.
I was in a part of town that I wasn’t supposed to be in. I was acting as if I was someone else. I was frightened that all the people around me were here to kill me. But I couldn’t run. Instead, I stood there, observing. I recalled something. The man at the coffee shop had told me what would happen if I didn’t accept this, I would die. I didn’t want to believe him, but I could see it in front of me. I wanted to scream out, I wanted to run away. But I waited for what seemed like a long time.
None of the people attacked me. They just kept doing their business, and completely ignored me. A woman shuffled past and fell to her knees. She quickly picked herself up, and carried on. A little kid fell and cut his leg on a broken bottle. He stopped for a second, but quickly carried on. A beggar tried to touch me, but I pulled away. I wanted to say sorry. I wanted to do something, but instead I kept my head down and kept walking. I kept carrying on, like the rest of them.
The buildings around me stopped. I found myself walking past the final buildings. I came to an empty road. I looked behind me, and I could see the city for as far as my eyes could see. I could still hear the cars, I could hear people talking, I could hear a siren in the distance. And suddenly, I knew it was where I was meant to be.
