Michigan was the first midwestern state to legalise recreational marijuana. Since late 2018, both recreational and medical marijuana have been legal here. In 2008, the therapeutic products got legalised; however, the law for recreational products was passed in late 2018. Further, its licensed sales started in 2019. Medical marijuana patients in Michigan can buy 10 ounces (280 grams) of cannabis in a month. They can possess only 2.5 ounces (70 grams) of cannabis or 0.53 ounces (15 grams) of concentrates at a time.

Though the therapeutic benefits of cannabis are potentially high, it is not something you can buy from any medical store. Legalised states have licensed stores called Marijuana dispensaries or Marijuana Provisioning Centers, which sell regulated products. So this means if you want to buy this legal weed, you will have to visit a michigan dispensary. But before you step into a weed store or dispensary, you need to know a few things.

You must be 21 and older.

First thing first, there’s no exception to this rule! An individual must be 21 years old or above before visiting the dispensary. The moment you reach the door of an outlet, you will be greeted by security personnel who ask for your ID. So make sure you take your valid Identity proof that says you are 21 or above; otherwise, you will be turned away. Many banks are still scared of dealing in the cannabis trade as marijuana/ cannabis is still illegal at the federal level. So if you prefer making payments through your credit/ debit cards or mobile applications, this will not work in most marijuana dispensaries. Carry plenty of cash with you when making your visit because buying weed from a dispensary is a costly affair as it includes state, local and excise taxes as well.

Have a cannabis goal

If you are buying cannabis products or strains for the first time and don’t know which would be the best for you, it’s okay! Don’t fret. Instead of focusing on the products, all you have to do is find out what effects you want to feel (or not feel). This is important because once you finally get inside the dispensary, you will be greeted by a budtender who will ask you, “What do you want?”. However, budtenders are like consultants. He will show you the products and recommend the best possible cannabis choices based on your needs.

Know the consumption method before you buy

Before purchasing cannabis, make sure you have the right equipment to consume it properly. Suppose you want to enjoy the cannabis experience while travelling but do not have your smoking apparatus (for obvious reason). It would be the supreme bummer to buy a product you can’t enjoy.

Though these dispensaries may look like normal retail stores, there are no returns in these establishments. On the first visit, people often get overwhelmed and drop several hundred bucks on edibles, disposable vape pens, flowers, etc. and end up finding themselves with buyer’s remorse.
