Perks of an Emergency 24 Hour Electrician in San Diego

Electricity is an incredibly important resource in this day and age.  It’s hard to imagine life without it!  So, when the power goes out…well, it’s inconvenient to say the least.

Just this week, my power went out hours before an important meeting I had.  It was super stressful – without my electricity, I couldn’t even email the person I was supposed to be meeting!  So – having someone there in an emergency can be a make-or-break kind of moment.

Causes of Power Outages

Personally, one of the most frustrating parts of losing electricity for me is not knowing the reason behind it.  After all, there are so many potentials.  Let me go over five of the possibilities for your power going out!

Equipment Failures

The situation I mentioned above, where I almost missed my meeting, was caused by an “equipment failure.”  Often, electrical companies won’t go fully in depth with what this means.  That being said, we can kind of piece together the story ourselves.  It probably means there was some sort of problem with wires (be it age or something else), or maybe a cable snap.

Often, this is when you could call an electrician for assistance.  If you’re not sure exactly what is causing the power outage – well, that’s the best time to utilize an emergency line.  Equipment failures are a prime candidate for this.

Accidents Near Electrical Lines

This probably seems like a fairly obvious occurrence.  After all, you would think you would notice a car accident.  Sometimes, it happens a little too far away for us to actually see.   One time when I was in college, the power went out while I was working.

When I started seeing sirens outside, I realized what had happened.  There was some ice on the road (though that’s not always the case), and someone had crashed into one of the utility poles.  Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), we don’t always get to see the evident up front.

While these are tragic accidents, it usually only impacts a small neighborhood area as far as a power outage.  If you’re unlucky enough to be in this sort of situation, you might call your power company or a local electrician for assistance in sorting out the issue. Luckily there are plenty of options like the Electrician in Gforce Electrician Company San Diego dedicated to convenient and sustainable power in a situation like this.

Weather

This is probably the most common reason behind a power failure.  There’s lots of different ways the weather can impact our electricity.  It’s not always something direct, like lightning striking a pole.  Sometimes a storm might knock down trees.  Those trees then knock cables down.

Of course, that’s not the only thing that can come from severe weather.  Flooding from heavy rain is a factor, of course.  Sometimes that can cause a mudslide, and obviously something like that could interfere with wiring or cables!

Wildfires or earthquakes are also not great for a grid.  They can absolutely wreak havoc on it, in fact!  While an electrician might not be able to do a ton for you in a situation like that, it’s still good to know you have one on your side at the end of the day.

Wildlife

This is something I didn’t really think about until I started looking into this topic!  We all know birds, squirrels, and chipmunks.  What I didn’t consider is how them building a nest might impact a utility pole.  Potentially, these little critters can even chew through cables or knock important parts down.

Of course, this is just a part of living in the world right now.  Especially as we continue to industrialize natural areas.  As we learn to coexist with wildlife, this sort of thing can happen!  Usually, repairs are able to be made fairly quickly.

Lots of Demand for Energy

As our population grows, more and more households will need electricity.  This can be a big stressor for a power block.  Sometimes too many people using power in one area can lead to a blackout.

Unfortunately, this is a specifically tough problem in California.  Especially as we start focusing on green energy sources.  Due to some of the droughts in the state, there are several articles like this one that discuss how hard this is on the electrical grid.

While some of this is linked to some of the factors I mentioned earlier, it’s still important to note.  When the weather is incredibly dry or hot, some state utilities will be shut off, so fires aren’t caused.  Unfortunately, that weather tends to lead to a lot of people wanting to use their air conditioning.  When too many people do it at once…well, it can cause a blackout.

Green Energy Sources and the Future

The debate between fossil fuels and green energy sources is ongoing.  This is especially important in a state like California.  Renewable energy makes up about twelve percent of power in the United States.  This type of energy is usually either hydro power, geothermal power, or even wood.  Solar and wind energy are also huge contributors.  The end goal is to someday entirely make the change to renewable energy.

“Biomass” is one of the primary sources of renewable energy.  There are a few different classifications of this.  The first is wood.  This can be chips, waste from paper mills or pulp, and sawdust and scraps from lumber mills.

That’s not the only source, though.  Something known as “biogenic solid waste” is another type.  This tends to come from cotton or paper.  It might also come from food waste.  Some biomass comes from animal manure as well.  Finally, farming materials or the leftovers of soybeans, corn, or algae.

Throughout this process, we all want to be able to trust our power not to go out.  A twenty-four-hour emergency line is quite convenient, of course.  While sometimes the future seems uncertain, having something you can count on like your power remaining on is comforting, to say the least.
